hurdy-gurdy/sinfonia, recorder, voice

Canadian recorderist, hurdy gurdy player and singer, Tobie Miller grew up in Vancouver and Montreal, beginning her musical studies at the age of three (violin and piano), later deciding to concentrate on early music.  After studies at McGill University (B. Mus, Honours Early Music Performance, 2004) she moved to Switzerland to pursue advanced studies in medieval music performance at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, with the support of two grants from the Canada Council for the Arts.  Tobie currently divides her time between Basel and Montreal, and has performed throughout Europe and North America with groups such as Ensemble La Rota, L'Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, Skye Consort, La Bande Montréal Baroque, and Les Musiciens de Saint Julien. In addition to a busy performance career, Tobie teaches regularly at workshops and festivals including CAMMAC (since 2003), the Over the Water Hurdy Gurdy Festival (since 2005) and Les Journées de La Flûte à Bec (2006). In 2008 she gave a course for baroque hurdy gurdy together with Matthias Loibner at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
