The conductor and singer Raitis Grigalis was born in Riga in 1975 where he grew up in and absorbed the rich musical culture and the famous choir-tradition of Latvia. The first steps of his musical training he undertook at the Emils Darzins music school (which later became the choir school of the Riga Cathedral). Following that he studied at the music academy of his hometown, receiving a diploma in choir-conduction in 1999 (bachelor of art). While studying he already performed in numerous ensembles, amongst them the radio-choir of Riga. Grigalis founded the vocal ensemble of the St. Peter's Church, where he worked on promoting historically informed performance practice.

In 1999 he went to Basel to study singing at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Richard Levitt and Andreas Scholl until 2004. Later he worked closely with Evelyn Tubb, Anthony Rooley, and Dominique Vellard in several projects.

Additionally to his solistic work, Grigalis is a memeber of diverse ensembles for early music, such as Ensemble Gilles Binchois (Dominique Vellard), Ferrara Ensemble (Crawford Young), Josquin Capella, and White Raven with concerts all over Europe. His artistic career is documented with numerous CD-recordings. His repertory stretches from compositions of the Middle Ages up to works of the Romantic era.
